November---the month of remembering our loved ones who passed away…and a busy month for us in ISNHS.

For this month, there were so many happenings. The Values Club held some activities such as the “Sayawit”, essay writing contest, kite flying, film viewing, and etc. Aside from that, our school hosted the Division STEP Skills Competition and the Athletic Meet wherein all the elementary and secondary schools in Vigan City have joined. The search for MISS UNO was also held.

These activities of the month are not the climax for me. The big deal was that my group in our IP in Research, qualified for the Intel Regional Science Fair and won as the second place for Cluster II in Divisional Stage Competition. I had mixed emotions when my name was mentioned by Mrs. Aquino, I was overwhelmed and proud for myself and to my two group mates as well.

My November was not so perfect because we’ve lost a teacher---our second mother. Senora Parel had her retirement on the second week of the month. I’ve been depressed for several days, hoping for a teacher just like her. No one can ever replace her in our hearts. That’s how we love her.

November 2009---my memorable month ever for I’ve experienced happiness and sadness.

A New World in the Second Quarter

Another quarter had surpassed and left me with new learning.
This second quarter is far way different than the first quarter.
In the first quarter, we’ve tackled and learned about the Internet and the Blog with their definitions, uses, history, and etc.
On the contrary, this quarter, we have gone to a new world---the world of HTML (hypertext mark-up language). I’ve learned that it is (HTML) the most common display instructions in the www (World Wide Web). It was when I’ve known who’s making the web standard; what are the three most essential web standards---the HTML, CSS, XML; what is an HTML file: what are the HTML editors; and last but not the least is the mark-up tag.
At first, when I was a beginner in using the internet I had so many questions---that have been answered by our lessons this second grading. I was so ignorant then…but now; I am wise---for what reasons?

Even though we had rare discussions because of many interruptions…we had lots of activities. From these activities, Ma’am Eve let us discover and do our work without her total help…but of course, she had given us instructions on what we must do to make our work easier.

“Discovering new stuffs by you is one way of learning.”

I can confidently and proudly say that I had a great job. I’ve done my activities with wisdom and intelligence. It’s my pleasure to learn about new stuffs. I must also say that I really enjoyed this second grading period and I am looking forward in the next quarter.

My Teacher,My Hero

My first impression to her is serious and terror. But as I got to know her more, I have realized that she's the total opposite of who I thought she is.
She is a jolly person. She is a joker and she talks with a great sense of humor. The way of her teaching is different because she's not just a medioker teacher. She's old so she have eaten many rice compared to the other teachers who are new in the service. When she teaches us, we rarely get bored but we always laugh and we are always alive. She could relate our lessons in Physics to reality or how can we apply it in our daily lives. She is not that terror but she is only strict. She scolds us because of our own fault and she only cares for us. All she wanted is for us to be responsible to do our own duties in school and most importantly, in our second home-our homeroom/classroom. If our classroonm is dirty, she sometimes scolds us because she doesn't want that her students, most especially her advisory class, to be criticized by others for being unresponsible.
The "she" that I was talking about is no other than Mrs. Ester L. Alegre-our intelligent teacher in Physics, our thoughtful adviser, and our loving second mother. She is my present hero aside from my mother and of course,Jose Rizal. She did so many things to open and enlighten my mind. She thought us many things that helped me to be more responsible and to love and to know God more.
All I can say now is "Thank you very much Mrs. Alegre." I'll treasure and consider you as one of my heroes.

This Year's Science Theme......

Every school year, there is a month of Science. This month of September, the Science Club organized activities which were participated by the interested students, in our school and in any other schools.

This year's theme is:"Adapting to Diverse Science Culture for Development."So, what do we mean by this?To fully understand the theme,we must know the meaning the words in it that make it important and with sense. Let's start with the word "diverse".According to the dictionary,it means essentially different or dissimilar. Next is the word "Science". As we all know and as we all learned, Science is a systematized body of knowledge of any one department of mind or matter. Last word-"culture" which means, the training or refining of the moral or intellectual faculties.

Long time ago, people are not yet civilized, but as the years past by, they had explored, discovered, learned, and created many things to improve their lives. These man-made creations are used until now but because of the modern civilization, these are improved through science and technology. That's when the word "diverse" comes out. Scientist learned to adapt to an essentially different Science culture. They have improved all of these things for the development of the world.

The theme for this month's Science celebration is a little bit hard to understand, but with intelligence, we can fully understand it. Let's try and try until we find it's true and very important meaning!

"FILIPINO Language:From BALER to the Entire PHILIPPINES"

"Why is it that the Filipinos understand each other?"---This question has a simple and concise answer. We,Filipinos, understand each other because of one reason-we have a National Language-Filipino.

"Wikang FILIPINO:Mula Baler Hanggang sa Boung Bansa"---So, what is the theme all about?

As we all know,Filipino language was founded by Manuel L. Quezon-the former President of the Philippines and the "Father of Filipino Language". He was born in Baler,Quezon, that's the reason why it is said that Filipino Language is from Baler that was spread in the entire nation.

We must thank Manuel L. Quezon. Without him, we could not understand each other and we could not attain peace and order. Even if we'll go to the different places in the Philippines---Luzon,Visayas,or Mindanao, we will not have a problem because when we speak in our national language(FILIPINO),every people will understand it for sure.

From the past years until these years,we,Filipinos speak in Filipino Language. From Baler, to the entire Nation,we must speak in Filipino---sincerely, patriotically, and wholeheartedly. We must be proud of it,wherever we are!

AJA!!!

Senior Year is the last and the final year in high school life. It has a big difference in the past three years in high school. During my freshmen, sophomore, junior year, I was a little bit cool because it’s just a little bit hard. It’s quite harder this time but in the end, I know that I’ll be satisfied and I can finally say, “Good job!”So, all I need to do now is to work hard and study hard especially for my last year in high school, because I know that it’ll be a tougher work.

Studying is nothing when a student like me didn’t learn something. This first grading period, I know that I have learned many things. I had more discoveries than the past three years. Like in TLE (ICT), I learned the fact that the Internet was born in 1983, that the “Father of Internet” is Vinton Cerf that Mark Andreesen was the one who developed a graphical browser for the World Wide Web called “Mosaic”, these are some of the many things that I have learned. If I enumerate them all, I’ll going to consume many hours. I can say that the most important thing that I learned this period is about the “blog”. It’s really challenging because of the fact that many people can see the post that I will make in my blog. On the other hand, it’s exciting because I can express my feelings and opinions in the web, freely and conveniently.

As I’ve said, blogging is somewhat challenging to me. It’s bothering me because it’s a little bit hard. Making posts, that you’re not sure if it’s in correct grammar? But, I have to face it. I’ve been trying to have a good work. In that way, I’ll have a good post in my blog. There’ll be no problem anymore.

Moving on, I will keep up the good work and work even harder. Cheer for me! AJA!!

What should we do to be globally competitive?

"Speak in English or Filipino Campaign"---so what is this all about?
Nowadays, students like me, are not fluent in speaking in English-our global language,or even Filipino-our natioanal language. Some speaks with wrong grammar, with wrong pronunciation, diction, accent, and with whatsoever errors.
In order for us to be competitive, schools are now implementing programs or campaigns to encourage students to speak fluently in English orFilipino. This is what our school is doing right now. The English together with the Filipino Club, launched a campaign which I support because it's for the good sake of us students. This is what we need. It'll be good when we speak english or tagalog everyday. We can develop our skills in speaking and most importantly, we can use it in the future especially for those who are planning to go overseas.
So,what are we waiting for? Let us all speak in English or Filipino to support this campaign! To my fellow students, let us improve our communication to be globally competitive!

Nutrition Month Celebration

Every year,on the month of July, every school in the Philippines, celebrates Nutrition Month. For this July,we celebrate it with the theme of "Wastong Nutrisyon Kailangan,Lifestyle Diseases Iwasan". Different contests were organized by the Step Club for this celebration:Oratorical contest,Cook Fest,Food Fest,Quiz Bee,Nutri Jingle,Poster-Slogan Making Contest and many more, were held and joined by students from first year to fourth year.

So,let's focus on the theme,"Wastong Nutrisyon Kailangan, Lifestyle Diseases Iwasan. What does this mean? As the years pass by, the world is into modernization. Due to this, lives are becoming shorter and shorter. Why? Because it affects the lifestyle of people. We can see in our surroundings, people who are addicted to cigarettes and alcoholic beverages. These came from science and technology. Because of these, many people suffer from different diseases. Like lung cancer for those chain smokers;liver cancer, for those who drink large quantity of alcohol and many other complications. These diseases can lead to death. Some die because they don't have enough knowledge. Some die because they don't care about their health. Even though they know that that it's bad for them, they'd still go for it. Instead of eating healthy foods which can help lessen the effects of their bad lifestyles, they eat foods which are bad for their health.

We must keep in our minds that healthy lifestyle is within ourselves. We need proper nutrition to fight or to avoid lifestyle diseases. So what can we do? We can avoid these diseases by being conscious in our diet, meaning,we should eat green leafy vegetables, fruits, and foods which are nutritious. We should also avoid having a low resistance, we can take multivitamins or ascorbic acid.

For a healthy lifestyle, we must be responsible on avoiding diseases caused by our own lifestyle. We are the one's who are responsible in taking care of ourselves. We must always remember that the best way to avoid lifestyle diseases is on our proper nourishment.

So, we now know that celebrating the Nutrition Month, is a big deal and we must NOT take it for granted. And we MUST learn to take good care of our health by our healthy lifestyle.
